Important note: The statements made in this paragraph about the cover provided by Flip insurance for accidental injuries and the amount of benefits payable relate to the Flip Active product dated 31 May 2023. That product was withdrawn and replaced with the new Flip Active product on 27 June 2023, which has a different scope of cover for accidental injuries. These statements do not describe the scope of cover under that new product. Please refer to the current Product Disclosure Statement for details of that cover.

A Flip Insurance Case Study

Jake’s an avid climber. Since the age of two he’s been told to get down from there, get out of that tree and get off the side of that building. He’s always getting injured from going hard but he’s never had insurance. A freak neck injury caused temporary blindness in one eye, and prompted him to find cover. This is his story.

Why injury insurance?

Jake never had insurance before he got Flip’s accidental injury cover. He says he’s never been the best with money. He thought insurance was expensive, confusing, and not for him.

But he got a wake-up call when he went blind in one eye because of a neck injury. He wasn’t able to get treatment because of the cost, so he anxiously waited for his sight to return. Happily, it did.

It made him realise how much he needed some kind of insurance in case anything like that happened again. It was a scary feeling having no backup.

Purchasing Flip

He started hesitantly looking at insurance, and then found Flip’s accidental injury cover. Because he’s so active (and accident prone) and this was just for injuries, it seemed a lot more helpful than the other ones he looked at. He skimmed to check if Flip was legit. Seeing they were backed by HCF his fears around legitimacy were gone and signed up. He felt the accidental injury cover was clearly designed for people like him, and actually made sense, unlike other products. He couldn’t believe how cheap it was. He loved the instant cover, and the fact you don’t have to go through some ridiculous process to get help.

Using Flip

Jake is a set and forget kind of user. He just wants peace of mind that he’s got a back up if something goes wrong. He doesn’t like spending time on life admin or any kind of adulting. Jake has a subscription and doesn’t even notice the payments.

"Other insurance is more expensive and it’s pretty daunting when it comes to bills. Flip on the other hand, I don’t even notice the payments. It’s not an issue."

The Flip experience

Jake’s had one claim paid by Flip. It was a climbing fail that resulted in a torn ligament

The accident and claim process

How did it happen?

I got an injury at my local climbing hangout. It didn’t feel too bad at first but then I knocked it at work and ended up collapsing on the floor in agony. That was the sign that I needed to get it checked out properly.

How was the claim process?

I love how Flip steps you through the claims process. I needed to go to the doctor to get a referral for scans anyway, so getting a note for the Flip claim at the same time was simple.

How long did it take?

I filed a claim while walking home - it honestly took me about 5 minutes - game-changing!

How fast did you get your cash?

Flip say they pay claims out instantly, but I was not expecting it to be that instant. The money was in my account within less than 24 hours.

What was your payout?

$200

How did you use the money?

I got Ubers and a finger splint. With plenty left over to cover coffee and a comfort burger.

What do you think of Flip?

I'm so stoked I had Flip insurance, because I wouldn't have gone to the doctor. Flip helped me get the treatment I needed, helping me recover faster and get back climbing.
